Last checked: 2026-10-24 against the official sources below.
Short answer: Wooden-frame couches: regular trash day (2 large items/week). Metal-frame furniture: Bulk Collection appointment.
What the official sources say about this item
- Up to two large/compactible items (such as sofas) per household on regular trash day.
- Furniture with a wooden frame can go out with regular trash. Furniture with a metal frame goes to Bulk Collection (keep it intact).
- Bulk Collection: up to 4 items per appointment, one appointment per household per week; households in buildings of up to 6 units.
- Convenience centers also take bulk items (limits apply; oversized items once a week).
How to arrange it
- Wooden frame: no booking, put it out on trash day.
- Metal frame: schedule at bulkcollection.phila.gov or via Philly311; label with your 4-letter Pickup Code; set out the evening before (not before 5 p.m. Fall/Winter, 7 p.m. Spring/Summer) and by 7 a.m.
Rules change, and where a source is unclear we say so. Confirm with the city (311) before setting anything out.
Paid option: junk removal
Not eligible for city pickup (for example, a larger apartment building) or need it gone sooner? A private junk removal service can haul items from inside your home for a fee. [Partner link not yet active]
Disclosure: Free official options are always listed first. If a paid-removal link appears, it may be an affiliate link and we may earn a commission at no cost to you. It never changes what we recommend.
